Erica was a Junior a Texas Tech University majoring in music education. She is the daughter of Kevin & Peggy Charlton of Palacios, Texas. She sang The Lord's Prayer for her talent.  In high school she was a member of the TMEA All-State choir for two years. Erica is now a member of the University Choir.  In the spring of 2001 she won the National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional competition. She is also the recipient of a music scholarship, as well as the McFadden Leaders Award, an academic scholarship.

Erica's platform is Prevention of Elderly Neglect. Erica is very concerned about the personal neglect of seniors who reside in retirement and nursing homes. Her goal is to to provide them with opportunities for relationships with young people who care. She plans to expand her program, Silver Circle, within the community of Lubbock.  You can find more information about Silver Circle here.

 

Erica has been actively involved in volunteer work for years.  She has participated in American Cancer Society's Relay for Life two summers as team captain. She is also a child mentor. Erica enjoys singing and visiting with residents of retirement and nursing homes on a regular basis. A member of Southcrest Baptist Church, Erica is a Bible study leader for Southcrest University Ministries.

Erica was awarded a variety of gifts and services including an educational scholarship, a wardrobe, makeup and hair care consultations, nail care, tanning & weight control services, a photographic portfolio, and more.  Also included is an all expense paid trip to Ft. Worth in July 2002 where she will represented Lubbock in the 2002 Miss Texas Pageant.
